At only 17 years of age,  in Hatteras Village the local HVAC contractor came over to repair the Heat Pump in my family’s little vacation house. My dad asked the owner if he needed any help for the summer, which he did. So I was instructed to put on some clothes that I didn’t mind getting dirty and off to work I went right there on the spot. I started off making 4.25/hr and the work was very hot and physical. Being in a community that is 80% or more vacation rentals, I learned very quickly that being resourceful and available were imperative in this industry.  Learning the trade in such a remote location that was over 3 hour from our supply house taught me to be efficient and ever conscious of parts and materials management. I needed to keep everything that was needed to complete the work without unnecessarily holding unused stock. The learning curve was steep and fast. I stayed employed in Hatteras through the rest of High School, and during College breaks. I worked for other contractors in the Raleigh area before finally settling in Wilmington NC. I worked for a Commercial and Industrial Mechanical Contractor before getting my contractors license and starting Air Ductz Inc.
